In 2026 it costs £927 per week to run St Matthias Church, and we receive £935 per week, most of which is from rental income. Our expenditure includes our contribution to the Diocese, which this year is £22800 – less than half of our total ministry cost to the Diocese (which covers such things as clergy housing, training, administrative staff, and safeguarding). This means we are being heavily subsidised by other Churches that are able to give more than we can.

So we only have £8 per week to save for all the things that need doing, for the church and for its work. This year we need to find money for, among other things:

a new wooden cross and a cherry picker to put it back up outside

work on the new eco-garden replacing the tarmaced crazy paving

work needed on the organ which has been estimated at £5000

and at some point soon we may have to pay for a new roof for the hall and replacement of our ageing gas boiler by an electrical system. And we would like to increase our contribution to the Diocese.

The Church of England invites its members to commit to giving away 10% of their disposable income annually: 5% to their church, and 5% to other charities. Please prayerfully consider what you are able to give, and complete the pledge form available in Church or below:
